Project Summary / Description:
The project aims to improve people's cognizance of climate change and promote pro-environmental actions towards climate change using low-cost simulation tools or climate microworlds. The study of factors effective in increasing people's monetary investment against climate change, biases affecting people's climatic decisions, and the effect of people's innate pro-environmental dispositions all fall under the purview of the current project. The current project was started in Feburary of 2020. The project aim was to target the lack of climate education in our society. It was envisioned that simulation tools or climate microworld will be an effective medium to increase people's understanding of climatic phenomeonon and educte them towards their role in climate change.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project aims to increase people's awareness and concern about climate change using simulation tools based on feedback and probability functions. Additionally, we plan on using simulation tools to study the effect of biases, like single action bias, on people's monetary actions toward climate change. The developed simulation tools are low-cost, easy-to-access tools that can be programmed according to the target population. By providing access to these tools and addressing biases, the project can empower underrepresented groups in the climate movement, such as low-income communities, communities of color, indigenous communities, and other marginalized populations. These communities often face barriers, such as a lack of information and resources and disproportionate exposure to the impacts of climate change. By increasing awareness and building knowledge, the project can help raise the issue's profile and encourage meaningful action against climate change. Additionally, by providing access to these tools, the project can help ensure that everyone has a voice in the climate movement and that climate change's impacts are addressed equitably. Overall, the project has the potential to make a significant contribution to addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

Mission Statement:
I am affiliated to the Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi). IIT Mandi is a top educational institute located in Himachal Pradesh, India. IIT Mandi strives to produce relevant research that can improve society and deepen our understanding by fostering an interdisciplinary approach to education and research. The institute aims to combine technical expertise with a human-centered approach to problem-solving and create solutions that positively impact society. IIT Mandi encourages research projects that address real-world problems and to collaborate with industry, government, and other organizations to translate their findings into practical applications. This commitment to relevant research is reflected in the wide range of fields in which IIT Mandi conducts research, including energy, water resources, transportation, health, and others. The current project on improving cognizance towards climate change is also directed toward positively impacting society and helping people make better decisions against climate change.
