Project Summary / Description:
Our atmosphere is filled with carbon, and if we‚ re going to remove that carbon, we need to do something useful with it. Currently, the market for sequestering carbon is limited to government subsidies and storing it underground or using it for enhanced oil recovery. If we can make carbon capture and sequestration profitable by turning it into useful consumer goods, then we can accelerate the battle against climate change. By creating a broad fair market use for captured carbon, we can commercialize the removal of carbon from the atmosphere to accelerate the path to net zero.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Much of our impact today is better measured in what we don't‚ t create. While mining and fossil fuel extraction do create jobs, they also create and fund conflict on multiple levels. We know that if we are successful, there could be fewer jobs in mining as a result, but more so because diamond mining is already in decline after reaching it‚ peak. In time, our goal is to secure jobs in Africa that will be lost when the existing diamond mines close. We are interested in pursuing diamond cutting options to support workers in these areas. Additionally, we use a startup direct air capture company based in Kenya who will be hiring significantly to ramp their production. Finally, as we bring our large scale production online 100‚ of jobs will be created. Incomes indirectly increased - The direct air company we use is based in Kenya. But overall, by avoiding mining and fossil fuel industries we can say with 100% confidence that our diamonds are conflict-free and 100% traceable. The more we scale, the more green jobs we will support. Our purchasing of Co2 is already supporting the direct air capture space, but we look forward to scaling our impact in the coming years.

Mission Statement:
The head office of Aether is in New York and our diamond manufacturing is done in various locations in the US. Aspects of our supply chain are global, namely in Paris (where we convert our captured carbon to Atmospheric Methane‚Ñ¢), and Surat, India (where cutting and polishing happens).
