Project Summary / Description:
The overall objective of my project work is to identify how Cameroon (and developing countries in general) could integrate the most renewable energy into her (their) energy systems. As a start, a technical performance analysis is done by developing a model using the EnergyPLAN tool produced by Aalborg University Denmark . This tool was developed for the purpose of assisting the design of national energy planning strategies on the basis of technical and economic analyses of the consequences of different national energy systems and investments (Lund H, 2014). So far, the model has been applied to the European level as well as to a local level such as towns and/or municipalities. The aim is to extend this model to the African market where the quick transition to renewable energy quick transition has created a number of challenges from technological, business and policy. There is an urgent need to develop new technologies and infrastructures to enable us utilize these renewable energy resources. Secondly, new markets, products, services need to be designed so that these technologies can be implemented. Thirdly, new policy and institutions need to be created to promote the most beneficial of these technologies. Most importantly, there is need for a better understanding of the system impacts that renewable energy (particularly Solar PV) will bring to the national electricity systems. This is because an energy system based on renewable is comprised of energy savings, demand side measures, energy storage, energy efficiency and cannot be supported by only one technology.

Mission Statement:
The Africa Climate Change leadership program aims to broaden support for the integration of climate change mitigation and adaptation with national strategies for sustainable development and poverty reduction. The program addresses climate change adaptation research, policy challenges and practical climate solutions. This enables adaptation and mitigation decision-making that is based on the best available scientific knowledge and tried and tested solutions. It does so by identifying climate change leaders; conducting training seminars for all the selected fellows; using research and practical evidence to inform active and ongoing policy formulation, reviewing or implementing processes within policy fellows‚ work environment (where there is an existing policy window of opportunity ) and providing appropriate advice in an action research mode; implementing practical climate solutions in an action research mode; carrying out advanced climate research; designing and implementing regional knowledge sharing and strengthening strategies; and convening national and regional science-policy-practice dialogues. These activities are implemented by existing regional pool of expertise, which is strengthened by their participation to serve as more active and effective interfaces between science and policy in their respective regions for climate change decision support.
