Project Summary / Description:

Aligned was launched in 2016 as Aligned Intermediary, Inc. (AI) and served as an advisory firm to nine large institutional investors - University of California, Church Commissioners for England, Nuveen, New Zealand Superannuation Fund, Cbus, Liberty Mutual, OPTrust, Wellcome Trust, and NABTU. AI originated investments for these investors but did not manage their capital. AI's operating budget was funded by Macarthur Foundation, Hewlett Foundation, Climateworks, and Planet Heritage Foundation. 

In 2019, Aligned rebranded to focus exclusively on asset management without relying on philanthropic support. Today, we directly manage approximately $25mm of climate investments and have launched a partnership with Ares Management to jointly manage Ares Climate Infrastructure Partners (ACIP), a target $1.5bn climate infrastructure fund.

Aligned promotes economic and gender diversity in three ways: 

First, we own and operate a portfolio of solar projects through our Aligned Solar Partners business that provide low-cost, renewable power to rural communities throughout Northern New England. These projects provide average savings to these communities of approximately 10-20% relative to their incumbent electric provider. These rural communities are disproportionately low-income, rural, and have unemployment rates above the state and national average. 

Second, we perform best-in-class ESG analysis on all of our investment products. This includes an analysis of both environmental (""E"") and social (""S"") factors. Social factors include economic and gender diversity. If investments can not satisfy our ESG screens, we do not execute the investments.
