Project Summary / Description:
To start a solar panel manufacturing plant in Tanzania, a model that will reduce selling price of solar panels and make them more readily available and accessible in Tanzania and across Africa. The motivation came from our recent move of family to the outskirts of Arusha town where electricity from main grid is not available. We began a quest to install solar power and the experience was not pleasant. We had two choices 1. to Seek huge sums to pay for the equipment and have the system faster installed or 2. Go slow and fund raise to purchase parts of the system slowly to eventually have power. With a young girl and an upcoming Baby, we needed power sooner. We also could not afford equipment prices. Two and a half months later we had some power. We felt the need to have the equipment locally manufactured, make them more affordable and readily accessible by those in need. This will have more solar systems installed and reduce demand for hydro power that is being distributed nationwide and the main source of power across Africa. Plan to develop the idea: Apply for this funding for use in feasibility study, site selection, business plan development and company registration. Some of this funding will also be used to hire advisors from reputable plant manufactures so we get best systems aligned for the production. These materials will be submitted to domestic and international financing institutions to seek larger funding/capital through loans or partnership joint ventures.
