Project Summary / Description:
Altiorem is the world‚ first community-built sustainable finance library and advocacy platform. Founded in 2019, we are a non-profit that supports investment professionals and key stakeholders to understand and implement sustainable investment strategies. Our theory of change recognises employees concerned about sustainability issues as key and largely untapped points of influence within financial organisations. Our free to access user-friendly online library provides summarised research and tools, making it easier to direct capital towards sustainable businesses. Altiorem is founded by industry experts to enable quicker and easier sustainable investment decision-making, with all the relevant information in one place and a community of support from like-minded individuals to share learning and best-practice. Through research and advocacy, we are driving systems change towards sustainable business models and support our community of finance professionals and students to become sustainability leaders, demonstrating tangible environmental and social benefits.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Through the allocation of financial capital and positive influence, sustainable finance supports flourishing social and environmental systems with principles of stewardship and responsibility at its core. Altiorem is actively seeking to promote the voices of underrepresented groups within the finance sphere in two ways: Through highlighting ESG issues relating to under-represented communities within the content of our library, for example indigenous communities, which seeks to steer capital investment away from harmful practices for humans and the environment. Through special-issue collaborations with organisations such as ‚ Women in Business and Finance Network‚ and ‚ Systemic Injustice‚ , to produce content, host events and to give voice to those less heard within the finance sector (collaborations happening in 2023). Through gender targets for volunteers/interns and mentors. We build on the existing body of research to make it more effective and impactful - bringing together the threads busy finance professionals need to create change. We have chosen to operate crowdsourcing methods for knowledge generation that involves a large group of dispersed volunteers contributing or producing ideas. This means we incur lowered costs, improved efficiency, increased quality, and complete scalability of our work, as well as democratising and promoting diversity of ideas and opinions. It also allows us to realise the many benefits of active learning and real-life engagement with concepts that help to embed new practices and ways of thinking.
