Project Summary / Description:

The Bekaa region is locally renowned for its contaminated natural resources, which can be a result of the accumulation of cow manure near water sources; which also leaks leachates and contaminates its surround water sources. Additionally, its anaerobic fermentation produces high methane and ammonia levels into the air. The intensive use of chemical agricultural amendments and burning of wood remnants in the region also contributes to the soil, water and air pollution. arcenciel focused on alleviating these harms, by creating an affordable, accessible and efficient compost as a solution for both waste management and chemical amendment substitute.

Lebanon‚ agriculture sector is mainly comprised of men, as it is deemed unfit for women by local social norms. As part of arcenciel‚ mission, we actively challenge social exclusion by empowering marginalized communities in all of our activities. We actively employ people suffering from physical/mental disabilities, social exclusion and discrimination. In the Domaine of Taanayel, 50% of our agricultural technicians are women. 

Moreover, this project is perfectly in line with arcenciel‚ commitment to sustainable development and to our social enterprise business model through the cooperation with surrounding farmers to find an environmentally friendly treatment for organic wastes and its usage in agricultural activities at affordable prices, while ensuring the reduction of water pollution source and delivering clean water.
