Project Summary / Description:
AVAL AGROECOLOGY LTD is a Ugandan Social enterprise that was founded in 2021 to foster sustainable income for fruit and vegetable farmers in Uganda in this we fight the problem of post-harvest food loss and underutilization of farm produce Specifically starting Pineapple growing is the main farming practice in the Luwero district with over 2000 acres of pineapple grown by more than 700 household farmers with each farm employing over 20 employees directly who are losing more than 960,000 fruits per season when they get rotten before they are sold, the reason being they are perishable. Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
the fact that the agricultural sector of Uganda employs over 70% of its total population women share 88% of this as a socially sensitive initiative we are drawing our first attention to the women the women-headed farmer families who at the same time have to perform house chores on the expense of the agricultural produce getting wasted since it is perishable giving them first priority help them to gain financial stability, with the increasing number of school dropouts among the youths just because the agricultural sector has not been profitable we work with them during the production selling process thus increasing employment rate, traditionally pineapple growing has been facilitating cutting down of trees in order to create an open space for pineapple growth we managed to curb this through enfasizing both agroforestry and parmaculture farming practices in this we use 5% of our profits to provide molinga tree seedlings that are rated highily in oxgyen production this has helped our farmers to change their farming practices to an ecofriendily farming practice

Mission Statement:
Based on history, aval was formed based on the agricultural experience of a sister and a brother who grew up observing the problems faced by the fruit farmers in their home ( luwero district) due to the outbreak of covid 19 the two were stopped from pursuing their dream courses just because the could not any get funded by their family gardens this where they got a scholarship to join jangu international under social innovation academy (https://socialinnovationacademy.org/) this is where we gained skills of identifying community problems and come up with social solutions along the way we discovered that this problem was not affecting only us but there were over 700 pineapple farmers in the region. worse of all the situation was affecting our environment while none of us was able to notice this is why aval as an initiative was started to curb the regional and environmental problems
