Project Summary / Description:
Solutions is a board game designed to help people discuss and think critically about the amazing solutions to our climate crisis. Following the game, players can take their favorite solution and turn it into a real-life project with help from a supportive online community. More info at: https://solutionsthegame.com/ The idea for Solutions came about during the first Project Drawdown conference in September 2019 (founding date). Sam met Henk Rogers, the entrepreneur behind Tetris, who proposed turning Drawdown into a board game. He immediately loved the idea of gamifying the Drawdown framework to reach a wider audience and spark conversations. With Henk‚ encouragement, Sam got to work designing the game. The original Drawdown book was such an inspiration to Sam ‚ it was so easy to read and brainstorm ways he could help make a difference in each solution. His goal for this game has been to distill climate solutions into an approachable and fun format filled with deep discussion and a sense of both urgency and empowerment.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The vast majority of people are concerned about climate change, but do not engage in solving the problem. They ignore it because they feel helpless. This can lead to climate anxiety and depression. The Solutions game empowers the 99% of humans of every background who traditionally feel disempowered and helpless about acting on climate. It lets anyone have meaningful conversations about climate, even if they‚ re unfamiliar with the topic. It then inspires them to take meaningful action. The Solutions game will especially empower youth - a group often not taken seriously when it comes to climate action. This is because the game is especially suited to classrooms. Our conversations with dozens of teachers shows that teachers want to teach about climate but often don‚ t know how - and when they do teach about climate it‚ usually only about the problems, which can cause climate anxiety in students. See question 10) for a real-world example of how the game can empower youth. We also believe the game is a natural fit for parents to play with their children. Climate can be a very tricky subject for parents to navigate with their kids, and the game is a pre-packaged way for them to broach the topic in a positive and action-oriented way. Many parents already believe in digital ‚ learning games‚ , but want to reduce children‚ screen time. This is the perfect package for them!
