Project Summary / Description:
Our project is an alternative to slash-and-burn agriculture, which decimates thousands of hectares of forest in the Congo Basin. It allows us to raise awareness among the authorities, the population and the forestry operators about the benefits of agroforestry, which brings socio-economic and environmental advantages. Our project fights against poverty, hunger, malnutrition, diseases, deforestation and climate change.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
We sequester the carbon thanks to the trees and the cassava that we plant, these same plants favor the fixation of water. The practice of agroforestry allows us to save existing trees that do not represent a threat to plants or farmers, this system promotes rapid soil regeneration and promotes the conservation of biodiversity and the forest ecosystem.
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We enroll artisans and itinerant sellers of non-timber forest products to become farmers and we expect to empower 50,000 people living on less than USD 2 per day through our reforestation, collection, crushing, processing and marketing activities.
