Project Summary / Description:
Bio Franca Trans Technology Limited is a Kenyan-owned company. Registered and incorporated in 2017. We provide sustainable solutions in waste management with a focus on appropriate technology. Our target market are schools, slums, market centers and individual households. we convert human waste to biogas and biogas is used for cooking while the substrate is used for fertilizer. At the household level we install energy saving stoves or small unit biogas plants that use cow dung to produce biogas. Biogas is used for cooking and substrate is applied in the garden.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
A biogas project can have a positive impact on greenhouse gas emissions. Here's how: Methane Reduction: Biogas is primarily composed of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Biogas projects capture methane emissions from organic waste, such as agricultural residues and sewage, and convert them into biogas. This process prevents methane from being released into the atmosphere, reducing its contribution to global warming. Renewable Energy Source: Biogas can be used as a renewable energy source for electricity generation and heating. When biogas replaces fossil fuels like coal or natural gas, it reduces the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other pollutants, which contribute to the greenhouse effect. Organic Waste Diversion: By diverting organic waste from landfills and using it in biogas production, biogas projects reduce the emission of methane that would have otherwise been generated in landfills as the waste decomposes anaerobically. Nutrient Recycling: The residual material from biogas production, known as digestate, can be used as a nutrient-rich fertilizer. This reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers, which are energy-intensive to produce and can lead to emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), another potent greenhouse gas. However, the overall impact of a biogas project on greenhouse gas emissions depends on management of feedstock, energy conversion efficiency, and the displacement of fossil fuels. Properly designed and operated biogas projects can significantly mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, making them an important part of sustainable energy and waste management strategies.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Bio Franca Company addresses climate change and pandemics. This is done by establishing income sustainable energy micro income projects that act as the micro centers of excellence. We also do that through lobbying and advocating leadership at all levels to integrate the current youth and other vulnerable groups and other members. The sustainable projects that are being carried out by Bio-Franca empower youth and other vulnerable communities by creating opportunities for the masons to be trained in the construction of biogas plants and rocket stoves.Biogas has several positive impacts on communities and schools: Clean Energy Source: Biogas provides a sustainable source of clean energy. It reduces reliance on fossil fuels and lowers greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a healthier environment. Energy Cost Savings: Biogas can lower energy costs for both communities and schools, freeing up resources for other essential needs. Improved Air Quality: By replacing traditional fuels like wood or coal, biogas helps improve indoor and outdoor air quality, reducing respiratory issues and health-related expenses. Waste Management: Biogas systems can process organic waste, including food scraps and sewage, reducing waste disposal costs and environmental pollution. Education Opportunities: Schools with biogas systems can use them as educational tools to teach students about renewable energy, sustainability, and waste management. Job Creation: The construction and maintenance of biogas facilities can create employment opportunities within the community. Economic Benefits: Biogas projects can lead to economic growth by promoting local entrepreneurship, such as setting up small-scale biogas plants. Energy Independence: Communities and schools can become less reliant on external energy sources, increasing resilience in the face of energy supply disruptions. Greenhouse Gas Reduction: Biogas production reduces methane emissions from organic waste, a potent greenhouse gas, contributing to climate change mitigation. Social Cohesion: Community-based biogas projects can foster a sense of ownership and cooperation, bringing people together to address shared energy and environmental challenges. In summary, biogas offers a range of social, economic, and environmental benefits to communities and schools, making it a valuable and sustainable energy solution.
