Project Summary / Description:
During a climate change science class in graduate school, I realized how critical information was limited to the class and needed to be shared in a more relatable way to all Americans to understand the immediacy of climate change and solutions. Relatable, human-centered storytelling about climate change awareness and solutions is a critical missing component of US. Stories shape mindsets and awareness, build empathy, and catalyze action as demonstrated by neighbor referrals driving rooftop solar adoption. I decided to form a 501c3 filming leaders to educate, inspire leadership, actions, adding Neighbor-to Neighbor how-to video programing focusing on community renewable energy.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Bloomcradle is a woman-founded and led nonprofit committed to recognizing and sharing diverse sustainability leaders coming from different economic, geographical, cultural, and other backgrounds across the United States. Women have also been equally represented in videos and we continue to make conscious decisions on featuring more women leaders as many of them are working in the climate change field often unrecognized by their organization or the field for their leadership and work. Geoff Velando who is part of Bloomcradle is a Latino American. I have sought out featuring leaders who come from different economic backgrounds, many of whom had to overcome many challenges to work in the field who everyday are going to work and making a difference for everyone. Many of the leaders I profile work on addressing climate change and income inequality in their jobs and at their organizations. Native American Len Necefer shared his stories about native populations and energy issues facing his own communities and those across the U.S. First generation Americans with family from Mexico, India, Peru have all been featured. Bloomcradle interviews that work for diverse, justice-oriented, and scientific organizations including: Indigenous organization Natives Outdoors, GRID Alternatives, WE Act, the White Roof Project, Western Resource Advocates, and Columbia University. Other leaders have worked for companies such as Vestas and Younicos.
