Project Summary / Description:

After having gained exposure in private equity, public policy, and data analytics, I decided to make a bigger shift in my career - in 2018, I came back to India and co-founded Blue Sky Analytics to change the way environmentalism is perceived in India. 

We started by aggregating raw ground measurements (IoT) by hooking government air quality monitors onto a unified platform to get a better understanding of the major air pollutants. Thereafter, we started exploring satellite data products like MODIS Terra (NASA), Suomi NPP (NASA), Sentinel 5P (ESA) to get more insights and realized a potential huge market opportunity.

India has one of the most unequal economies in the world, with the [top 1% owning over 73% of the wealth](https://www.businesstoday.in/current/economy-politics/oxfam-india-wealth-report-income-inequality-richests-poor/story/268541.html). We at Blue Sky Analytics believe that the knowledge of environmental parameters (air quality, forest fire, water and land quality) is a basic human right. Keeping both these factors in mind it is important that our products are available to anyone and everyone without an income bias. Our free platform provides every citizen the right to access information on the air they breathe, quality of water they drink, proximity to forest and farm fires etc. By not discriminating against the poor who cannot pay for this information, we are including a wider demographic of people. 

India as a country is largely skewed towards male domination in the workplace and in the society. Having a female-led startup has not just broken stereotypes where gender identities are hardwired but has also been successful in leading the discourse on air pollution in India. Blue Sky has a policy of hiring women in tech roles, in strategy, and for sales and partnerships. Interestingly, our women employees are STEM grads who write about environment, oversee the work of their male counterparts, led teams, and build partnerships with investors, media, governments, among others. We haven't defined rigid roles for our employees. 

A coder might hire a business development manager and a strategist might review the work of a software developer. We firmly believe in inclusive learning and growth.
