Project Summary / Description:
The goal of the project is to contribute to a technological reduction by 75% of the energy poverty of cooking and lighting in rural households in Africa, South Asia and Latin America and the pressures exerted on the world's forests. This helps promote rural access to a new clean cooking technology called "GUEV COOKER" capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% relative to primary energies and effectively contributes to the development of green industrialization leading to carbon neutral structural transformation and sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
In Benin, women devote much of their time to unpaid productive activities. This unpaid work, especially the preparation of meals, is the responsibility of the Women. They depend on traditional cookers which expose them to high concentrations of dangerous pollutants, sources of serious respiratory and eye diseases. The majority of households in sub-Saharan Africa still use solid fuels for cooking. This disproportionately affects women's health, reduces the time spent on income-generating activities, and degrades the environment. In Benin, data suggests that the most common cooking equipment is traditional stoves (87%), which are inefficient and only use 8% to 15% of the energy potential of combustion. Women also spend much more time than men collecting firewood, 22% of women in the case of Benin compared to only 5% of men. The "GUEV COOKER" project accelerates the production and distribution of inclusive and green industrial technological innovations and contributes to the establishment of an economic development infrastructure with a low carbon footprint, high potential for job creation, and resilient to climate change. To this end, this innovation is positioned as a catalyst for better management of protected areas and differs from existing models by four major functions: (1) an automatic burner which excludes the use of oil and matches, (2 ) a combustion balance regulator, (3) a cooking time programmer with automatic shut-off buzzer and (4) energy autonomy allowing the supply of three 12-volt "LED" lamps continuously while making it possible to charge various electrical devices (laptops, radions, computers). This project has four main advantages for the daily life of the beneficiary, generally made up of housewives, bars, restaurants, hotels and school canteens. It provides evidence on the time use of rural women and promotes a reduction and redistribution of domestic work and unpaid care for women. The socio-economic and environmental impacts of using the GUEV COOKER improved stove on the economic empowerment of women and the emission of greenhouse gases.
