Project Summary / Description:
The Campus Sostenible Strategy of the National University of Colombia- Medell n Headquarters, specifically in the Faculty of Mines as promoter of the initiative, proposes to identify, create and develop practices that contribute to transform the ways of being and acting of the members of the university community; and thus participate in the search for new cultural paradigms in relation to value of life and human action for the planet. It started in 2019, but has a wider background, like the stablishment of the Environmental Policy of the University or the Plan of Environmental managment of the institution, all which allowed the strategy and its program to start. Worth mentioning the reason it started, not only to articulate the different parts than conform the environmental problems. But to include students and other parts of the community in the making and monitoring of projects and initiatives inside the strategy.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The program of the strategy, within its different branches and projects, empowers groups historically casted aside. For example, the initiative Energy for education with a gender-sensitive approach, aims to reduce the gap between men and women that can have access to graduate education programs, it will self-generate 27% of its energy demand, and the savings provided will become graduate scholarships for low-income women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Besides that, the strategy has a strong participation of women, not only in its main team, but on its constant invitations to students and specially women, to be part of the projects. Another way Campus Sostenible take into account underrepresented groups, is listening to the ideas and claims of the young people of the campus, starting some of the initiatives they present to the group. Furthermore, some of the activities that take place in the faculty, have outcomes like donations of food and clothes or spaces for learning and participating in environmental decisions or educational days, this spaces take into account the vulnerable communities, not only the ones that are affected by climate changes, but also the ones that are economically vulnerable.

Mission Statement:
The Strategy is more than a different way of assuming the production and use of technologies, it is also an exercise in social innovation and articulated and permanent thinking, in which the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) conceives itself as an agent of sociocultural change in the contexts local, national and Latin American. This is currently operating in Medellin, specifically in the Minas Faculty, one of the campuses that the University has in this city. However, it's working to expand to other areas of the country, such as Bogot , Amazonas and Manizales.
