Project Summary / Description:

The project started with the study of the 4 for 1000 (4per1000) initiative https://www.4p1000.org/ and the research on the Terra Preta do √çndio whose 6 to 10% of carbon content related to a fertility has been maintained over 1000 to 2000 years. Normally carbon from organic matter is released by decomposition back to the atmosphere. Through anaerobic fermentation processes inoculated by Effective Microorganisms (EM) the carbon of organic matter in the Terra Carbono stabilize below the ground (like sauerkraut) and provides fertile soil for organic production and/or agroforestry.

The idea is to occupy through agroforestry systems the space with a high diversity of species and functions, inviting the community of the region to know and participate of the activities, promoting Environmental Education with alternative systems to the monoculture model that leaves a trail of degradation. 
In the workshops in Mbay and Corumb over 60% of the participants were women. In agroforestry systems the activities are highly diverse and overall in communities women get very involved and are able to increase quickly the variety of fresh and local foods consumed in homes.
