Project Summary / Description:
One of the effects of intensive agricultural practices which are reliant on chemical fertilizers is that it has left the soil degraded. With increasing populations and their rising needs, there has been an increase in the demand for not only agricultural commodities but also more land to satisfy the infrastructural needs as cities expand leading to conversion of more forests and grasslands to farm lands. Thus, our purpose is to address the effects of unruly urbanization by way of making degrading agricultural lands in the peri-urban area green and productive again through agro-forestry, Miyawaki method of forestry and natural farming.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
During the project lifecycle ‚ 100 women farmers and youth in all from local village would be trained as well so that they could implement this better change at their farms too. It is found that women are more receptive of changes which prove to be better and efficient and are ready to adopt the suggested changes over men. Also, once the woman is educated and empowered, she is capable to lift the entire family from economic poverty to malnutrition to education. Moreover, the younger generation are fast to learn and adopt new things and have ease to use technology. Moreover, we would engage 3 full time farm laborers (a couple and another farm laborer) from the village locally to help us establish this Zero budget agro-forestry demonstration project. Through this model it would be proved that zero budget agroforestry and agriculture are far superior in terms of yield, money saving as well as better water retention and carbon sequestration. Thus, the far-reaching impact of this project would be reaching to 500 people (considering 5 people in a family) from the village of 2500 population.
