Project Summary / Description:
The City of Grand Marais adopted a Climate Action Plan with a goal of being carbon neutral, community-wide, by 2040. To better understand how the city uses electricity, and later implement rebates and incentives programs that lead to decarbonization, the city invested in switching its utility meters to smart meters. After the city acquired AMI (Advanced Meter Information) infrastructure, it was determined that new rate ideas needed to be informed by a rate study.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
This project supports economic diversity by taking into account the vast amount of economic diversity present in our city. There are lakefront homes that sell for more than six figures and people on fixed incomes living full-time in converted one-season cabins. The achieve the goals of the city's Climate Action Plan, rebates and incentives must be implemented to drive the electrification and decarbonization of our energy use. To best support all economic statuses within the city, the ratemaking study will allow us to support our low-to-moderate income community, and achieve our climate goals.
