Project Summary / Description:
In 2018 I decided to analyze the Malawian policy that regulates charcoal production. To my surprise, the law does not prohibit charcoal production if it‚ sustainably made. So in 2019 I founded and registered Clean heat solutions with an aim of making carbonized charcoal briquettes from farm waste. Whilst producing carbonized charcoal briquettes from waste, we realized that there is still flow of charcoal on the market hence with financial support from USAID through World Connect in September 2020 we launched a project titled CLEAN BUSINESS where we are training 40 charcoal producers and traders in Welding and Fabrication, Briquettes Making and Tailoring in Neno district, the trainees are being empowered with skills to either start their own businesses or get employed. We believe that nobody would opt for illegal charcoal production where there is an alternative source of income from Welding and Fabrication.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We are a youth let enterprise, all staff are below the age of 30. we work with rural people who are charcoal producers and regarded as the poorest in the country. We engage these people in designing solutions that work for them. We make sure they are empowered with skills that can generate them decent money while also conserving the environment. Our products are distributed by women vendors who are usually oppressed and lack business opportunities. our involvement helps these women to have an opportunity to trade and have access to financial income.
