Project Summary / Description:
This project is part of the global plan of Dr. Singh that Local Direct Current Power networks based on photovoltaics and batteries can eradicate global energy poverty. In 1981, he published, R. Singh, Technical and Economical Assessment of Photovoltaics for Rural Development in Developing Countries , Int. Journal of Energy Systems, vol. 1. No. 3. pp. 209-212, 1981. More recently in 2014, he published, R. Singh et. al., Why and How Photovoltaics will provide Cheapest Source of Electricity in 21st Century , FACTA UNIVERSITATIS, Series: Electronics and Energetics, Vol., No 2, pp. 275-298, June 2014.

Mission Statement:
More than 1.3 billion people all over the world have no access to electric power. Just in India, around 88% rural households and 35% of urban households are using either biomass, coal, firewood or kerosene for cooking needs. Other than carbon emission issues, these cooking sources creates serious health problems. With ultra-low-cost of photovoltaics and constantly reducing cost of batteries, we can provide ultra-low cost 48V direct current power based cooking for the under-privileged people all over the world. The purpose of this project is to develop ultra-high efficiency 48 V DC cooking appliances, which are not available commercially in the market.
