Project Summary / Description:
Led by co founders Ben Block and Jason Sandman, Climate Dads formed Father‚ Day 2018 to speak on behalf of male caregivers who take climate change seriously. Since our first meetup at a Philadelphia playground, Climate Dads and supporters ‚Äî parents, advocates, teachers ‚Äî continue to show up in larger numbers and with greater enthusiasm. Formed to create greater support for climate action among men, in particular male caregivers, we soon honed our focus on the common cause of decarbonizing our city‚ school buses -- for cleaner air, greater financial resources for an impoverished district, and meaningful decarbonization of our transportation system.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
By focusing climate solutions within urban school districts, Climate Dads believes we can target carbon finance and tech investment to the communities that need it most. Climate change is projected to cause dire consequences for our youngest generations. Meanwhile, our urban school districts are under resourced and ill equipped to assist our youth prepare for the financial and social challenges awaiting in the decades to come. K-12 education spending in 25 states such as Pennsylvania remains lower than before the 2008 recession. Achievement and graduation rates, employment and wages, improve when funding increases, especially for low-income families. Diesel exhaust is a known carcinogen and worsens asthma, the third leading cause of hospital stays in children. Philadelphia, the largest poor city in the United States, has some of the most severe rates of childhood asthma cases in the country. Families of color require hospitalization more frequently compared to other populations.
