Project Summary / Description:
We just launched this year. We formed because we are in the capital city of the world's largest economy and there are almost no organizations here doing disruptive, confrontational direct action to confront the climate crisis. Through widespread, mass-turnout disruptive protest, we believe we can break through the cluttered media market and start shifting the political discussion. Our first major protest will be a mass, nonviolent direct action at the White House Correspondents Dinner. From there, we will pivot, taking action at other high profile events such as the UN General Assembly and elsewhere. Our central demand is an end to fossil fuel extraction on federal lands. As these lands drive a large percentage of total fossil fuel extraction, winning this demand would be quite significant.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our group is majority-women. Many of the people in core roles are Indigenous, Middle Eastern/South Asian, or trans. Additionally, we aim for most of our organizing going forward to focus on college students.
