Project Summary / Description:
Problem: Hiring is the #1 most common challenge facing climate companies — a challenge that is costing them billions of dollars, and one that's slowing their ability to scale climate solutions. Solution: Climatebase is the world's #1 platform for climate careers. We help climate companies hire the mission-driven talent they need to succeed, and we help people transition into high-impact climate jobs. Over 200k job seekers use Climatebase each month, and we've attracted over 1M users to date — all organic word of mouth. Our platform combines the network effects of a two-sided hiring marketplace with the scalability of AI-powered sourcing, and the defensibility of content and community. In 2019, we organized the world's first-ever climate job fair, which attracted over 600 attendees, and inspired us to start Climatebase, which launched in 2020. Our mission: Mobilize talent to accelerate climate solutions at a planetary scale.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
In the past, climate/environmental work, as well as the tech sector, have both suffered from a lack of diversity. These spaces have been dominated by mostly white and mostly male-identifying people. Unsurprisingly, the era of "clean tech 1.0" (late 2000s) was reflective of this bias — which was also compounded by the fact that major generic job platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed simply don't work well for people searching for climate jobs. Climatebase is the first platform to make it easy to find climate jobs, and in doing so, we've successfully democratized discovery of these job opportunities to over 1 million people from all around the world and from a wide range of diverse backgrounds. Our data shows that Climatebase is attracting a diverse workforce that is eager to work on climate. Of the over 4,000 applicants to the Climatebase Fellowship (climatebase.org/fellowship), more than half identified either as women or non-binary, while 56% of applicants identified as members of an ethnic minority. These numbers are an encouraging sign that the future of climate work may stand to be more inclusive than some of its Silicon Valley forebears.
