Project Summary / Description:
ClimateVoice leverages the power of corporate influence from climate-positive companies to win crucial policy battles. Our mission is to mobilize the voice of the workforce to urge companies to go all in on climate, both in business practices and policy advocacy. We believe employee engagement is a powerful, under-used lever that can propel corporate action. When employees speak up, and urge companies to advocate for climate policy, it catalyzes change at the highest levels. After years leading sustainability teams at Google and Facebook, our Founder and Executive Director Bill Weihl launched ClimateVoice in 2020 and formalized it as a fiscally sponsored project at Tides Center in early 2021. He believes that to decarbonize at the speed and scale required to address the climate crisis, we need bold public policy to accelerate change ‚ and saw first hand that corporations play a huge role in policy action (or, too often, inaction).

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our unique form of employee activism often draws from a group of constituents (ex. Tech knowledge workers) who feel more secure in their jobs and able to speak up in the workplace. These advocates are frequently young people (Gen Z & Millennials) who are very passionate about climate action and insist on climate justice. Our educational and engagement efforts enlist these voices in the forms of youth panels hosted on Instagram Live, activist spotlights featured on our LinkedIn ClimateVoices series (https://climatevoice.org/climatevoices), and advisory board members representing student and indigenous communities. Lastly, we work to mobilize support for policies that drive a just and equitable transition, ensuring that everyone can raise their voices, apply their knowledge, and thrive and prosper. "There are still so many young people who feel like their voice or their impact doesn't matter. We need intergenerational collaboration to have access to share our ideas." - Maya Penn, a 22 year old award-winning environmental and climate activist, on an episode of ClimateVoices in March 2022 (https://youtu.be/PB_ZO0OPWdo).
