Project Summary / Description:
Clip.bike‚ purpose is to enable the adoption of biking, in place of fossil-fuel transportation, by providing e-bike technology at a fraction of the cost and complexity. Clip.bike launched in September 2020 the first all-in-one, portable, and plug & play propulsion device to upgrade any regular bike into an e-bike. Proven advantages of this patented invention are affordability and universality, thus creating a path to democratize e-bike technology and drastically reduce GHG emissions. CLIP is six times less expensive than the average e-bike and attaches instantly to any personal or shared bike‚ front wheel without tools or pre-installation.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
With two billion bikes spanning across global communities and less than 20x the amount of CO2 emissions vs. cars, for a fraction of the cost; biking is an inexpensive, efficient and ubiquitous mobility solution with the power to fight climate change and alleviate poverty. Paradoxically, biking is not accessible for a large majority of commuters. Too much effort or lack of safety are the main reasons preventing bike commuting from becoming mainstream and reinforcing our dependency to fossil fuel transportation solutions in urban areas across the world. In the US, 80% of the population has access to a bike: shared or personal. Biking is by far the most accessible and affordable way for underserved communities to access education, work, and networking opportunities. Unfortunately, effort limits biking to short distance trips, thus reducing the potential of this efficient and affordable mobility solution. E-bikes averaging $2000 are not an option for most commuters. CLIP's mission is to democratize e-bike technology. CLIP is six times less expensive than the average e-bike and attaches instantly to any regular bike‚ front wheel without tools or pre-installation. By providing a reliable and accessible alternative to fossil-fuel vehicles, Clip.bike aims to support a powerful movement towards post-carbon transportation, starting in the communities where transportation options are limited. Every commuter from an underserved community who transitions to biking reinforces the safety of all riders and makes bike commuting more culturally acceptable. In doing so, polluting and expensive modes of transport are reduced as more space and resources are dedicated to sustainable transportation alternatives. Commuters from the same community may then feel empowered to bike to work or school or to run errands safely. We believe this bottom-up approach is a cost effective solution to support a massive decarbonization of transportation while providing an efficient and inexpensive mobility platform to lift people out of poverty.
