Project Summary / Description:
The project's core purpose is to remove atmospheric carbon dioxide at a climate-relevant scale. The project started in 2019 with a conversation relating to how earth geological records showed examples of how planet earth had historically responded to elevated atmospheric CO2 levels. This simple idea brought the working team together and includes core science, process engineering, operations, finance, and governance capabilities. The results of which gave the founders confidence to incorporate the company, CO2CO Ltd, in 2021. Today we have a process design, mass balance model, cost and financial model. The results showed clear potential for climate-relevant scale at attractive market prices and robust investment grade projects. The project leverages industry-standard equipment and processes and therefore existing resources, capabilities and supply chains. The project has innovated at the intersection of two mature technologies to produce a product that benefits the climate, local environment and local stakeholders. Our mission is to decarbonise the atmosphere and re-carbonise the biosphere.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Climate change is one of the most significant challenges facing humanity today. In providing a solution implanted at scale, CO2CO directly addresses a root cause, atmospheric carbon dioxide, and in areas where those most vulnerable and least represented are located. Climate change has increased pressures on local communities ability to sustain the quality and quantity of food and water. Examples include the reduced access to and the rising cost of artificial fertilisers, pesticides and irrigation water. The biochar product we produce alleviates these pressures directly. Across the regions we plan to operate, income inequalities are widening. Our projects will bring direct, local employment opportunities. These opportunities range from socio-economic development of agricultural and afforestation projects to construction opportunities. There will be opportunities for education in engineering, operations, repairs and maintenance for the younger generations. For many less-developed nations, coastal regions are actively threatened by sea-level rise. We help those areas by co-locating. Examples include East Africa, the Bay of Bengal, Vietnam, bridging those most at risk with a straightforward solution.
