Project Summary / Description:
Young Europeans express a strong interest to get involved in the challenges raised by climate change. However, not everyone has the same access to awareness-raising tools, and there is a lack of dialogue between the resource persons and organisations dedicated to education on climate issues and younger and more vulnerable people. In order to address this issue, the 1Planet4All project was launched in 2020 by 14 European organisations together in a consortium. It aims to raise awareness among youth about climate change as a global threat to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and to inspire their active engagement in concrete actions for safe, inclusive and climate smart communities. It thus responds to the 2030 Agenda, strengthening the sense of interdependence, personal responsibility, and solidarity between developed and developing countries for a sustainable future for all.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The funded activities will be directly aimed at a young audience (15-35 years old). Indeed, Convergences' position is that young people are the key actors in the fight against climate change as their voice must be heard to foresee desirable future for all. The activities are therefore defined to respond precisely to their needs and focus on issues directly related to their daily lives. These activities will also partly focus on themes directly related to gender issues, as well as on the possibilities for young people in Ile-de-France (the French region including Paris and its surroundings) to get involved on these topics. The other themes will be partly addressed from a gender perspective. In addition to the theoretical aspect, the project will also consider the gender dimension in its practical aspects: encouraging the participation of girls and women specifically in advance of the activities through targeted communication, guaranteeing the possibility of participation for all during the activities, guaranteeing parity between participants in the activities, creating inspiring female role models. Finally, activities will be organized in places that are easily accessible to the most disadvantaged groups to allow their effective participation. Communities most directly affected by the ecological crisis are indirect beneficiaries of the project. Indeed, the focus on the Paris region, in a French context of hypercentralisation of political, economic, and administrative decisions, makes it possible to impact behavioural change at the heart of the decision-making hub, and thus to positively influence decisions impacting these vulnerable communities.

Mission Statement:
Launched in 2008, Convergences is a platform for reflection, mobilisation, and advocacy. Convergences promotes the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the fight against poverty, exclusion, and climate change in both developed and developing countries. Youth We Can! (YWC!) is the youth component of Convergences' work since 2012. Its objective is to promote initiatives, motivate and help the new generation to act for a fairer and more sustainable world. The activities funded will be part of a 3.5-year project called 1Planet4All and co-financed by the European Commission's DEAR programme. This project to train, raise awareness, and mobilise young people for the climate is being implemented by 14 organisations over 12 European countries and targets more than 8 million young Europeans. As a member of this consortium, Convergences develop in France activities such as communication campaigns, inspirational events, and trainings.
