Project Summary / Description:

Substantial soil carbon sequestration using postharvest cover cropping in corn and soybeans has been demonstrated in long-term investigations in central Illinois, with the caveat that the growing season in the north of the US is too short for the same effect as found in Illinois. Starting the cover in August and September during cash-crop curing uses the long daylight periods so that more biomass results. The limitation is a seeding method over standing cash crop. Drone seeding extends interseeding to fields where alternative methods of fixed wing, helicopters, and highboys are too unsafe, expensive or inconsistent in seed coverage.

We are small as yet and have not developed formal diversity policies, but we have 
a diverse team in terms of gender, race, and age. 
We are promoting a technology that makes cover cropping more available to small scale farmers of New England, that may have fields bordered with trees, which are hard to fly. Fixed wing and helicopters will not work if the fields are too small.
