Project Summary / Description:
We developed the eDemocracy Carbon Budget Project in order to combine a cutting edge public engagement platform with micro-targeted community specific climate communications. Our goal was to find a solution to the inertia that the over 1300 jurisdictions that have declared climate emergencies were unable to break, and to do it in a meaningful, measurable and scalable fashion. We believe that real change comes from the bottom up. We also believe that given the mandate from their community members, it is possible for local government officials to enact essential policy that empowers us all to act on climate.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
7. How does your project support economic and gender diversity as an organization? * The Carbon Budget Project was specifically designed to reach members of the ‚ congregation‚ instead of just the ‚ choir‚ . The opportunity to participate is not only available to everyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or any other classification, but our project is designed to proactively reach out to everyone. We work with local governments and directly with stakeholders to be as accessible as possible ‚Äî whether that means utilizing multiple languages or making our online platform available on computers in libraries and other public spaces or on paper in face to face meetings. The best solutions come when as many voices as possible are heard in the decision making process. Social license can not be achieved unless everyone's perspective is included and the result is a plan that works for everyone. That is the core design feature of the eDemocracy platform and the primary objective of our public engagement strategy.
