Project Summary / Description:
Enersion was incorporated in 2016, spending 5 years in R&D, after which it has secured over $1M sales in 2022. After significant improvement, Enersion finalized its product which will be implemented in a Vancouver Island Health Authorities (VIHA) building through this project. Enersion offers a zero-emission solar tri-generation that converts solar radiation into refrigerant-free cooling, heating and electricity simultaneously with 4 times the energy output compared to solar photovoltaic panels per sqft. This integrated solution consists of Enersion‚ novel cooling technology that converts heat to cooling without electricity or synthetic refrigerants, paired with hybrid photovoltaic panels that produce both electricity and heat. Enersion‚ cooling technology uses nano-porous materials to replace the compressor in the traditional refrigeration cycle. The solution will replace electricity used for air-conditioning, natural gas used for heating and offset the grid electricity required by VIHA building providing up to 70% energy cost savings.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses), Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Enersion‚ solar tri-generation is an ideal system for low-income communities that suffer from grid connectivity. The solar tri-generation allows self-sustenance with high energy output making on-site energy which is incredibly practical and viable for such locations. Enersion has partnered with Grid Alternatives, who are one of the largest solar deployers in the US. They actively take up projects in disadvantaged communities in California and have identified key locations within such areas for Enersion‚ tri-generation. Although Enersion is initially going after direct sales, once the number of system implementations increase and the technology accumulates sufficient data for future installations, Enersion will offer ‚ Energy as a Service‚ model to deploy the technology in low-income communities. This model would allow less privileged communities to benefit from the technology at no upfront cost, where only a specific portion of annual savings would be enough to pay for the system over the years. Enersion believes green and low-cost energy should be available to all, regardless of financial, political, racial or other distinctions.
