Project Summary / Description:
In the era of climate change, it is imperative for the agriculture sector to shift from intensive and industrialized practices to climate-smart technologies. However, the subsidy schemes are less inclusive of small and marginal farmers. To address this, SwitchON Foundation has innovated a conducive financial ecosystem for the farmers, who are considered ‚ unbankable‚ in the modern banking sector. The Guarantee Fund in our ecosystem has built the confidence of financial institutions for sanctioning green loans. The project has a grassroot reach which gives an end-to-end solution through the ecosystem for the adoption of solar pumps and climate-smart technologies.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
SwitchON Foundation‚ mandate is to work particularly with small and marginal farmers who are unable to benefit from subsidy schemes. We conduct sensitization programmes with vulnerable farmers and create a strategy to increase the uptake of climate-smart technologies. Our co-creators comprise of women, small and marginal landholders, unrepresented caste groups, indigenous groups and farmers from geographically remote areas and climate-vulnerable locations (exposed to droughts and floods). Typically, they are subjected to inequity and discrimination from the formal credit sector.
