Project Summary / Description:
Flux Marine started as an idea at Princeton University in 2016. As a lifelong boater, Ben Sorkin performed independent research on the core technology and application for 18 months. In 2017, Daylin Frantin and Jonathan Lord joined the team, to build a business plan and form a company around the technology. Flux Marine was officially incorporated in 2018 with the goal of developing a marine propulsion solution that addresses customer pain points and provides a performance solution that does not pollute our waters and contribute to global greenhouse gas emissions.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Flux Marine‚ mission has the potential for profound impact across the globe through a diverse set of cultures, locations, and economic regions. Boating is an activity that transcends geographic and societal barriers. As we intend to break through these barriers and spread our solution, we rely heavily on a diverse set of minds to develop a comprehensive growth and education strategy. According to a study by the PEW Research center, women are more likely than men to take actions to protect the environment. Furthermore, it is not possible to transform this industry without women; 7.9% of adult men and 6.6% of adult women own a boat so it is an inherently diverse industry. As such, we have women on both our advisory board and board of directors. Bringing the marine industry on-board towards a sustainable energy future requires a diverse team to influence a diverse global industry. Regarding economic diversity - remote and impoverished locations around the world rely on marine transportation. Many of these areas face hurdles in transporting fuel and carrying out scheduled maintenance of engines. Our solution has the potential for communities to go off the grid and reduce dependence on consistent maintenance and repairs.
