Project Summary / Description:
The project was formed to mitigate concentrated sources of methane that qualify for carbon markets and are otherwise unregulated and unaddressed. Sources include livestock manure ponds, methane from coal & Trona mines (active and abandoned) estimated at emissions of 1.5-3.3 Gt / year, as well as natural sources and potentially runaway sources in the permafrost - which aren't scientifically quantified yet.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
We find concentrated sources of methane that are emanating into the atmosphere and install highly monitored flare or generator on it. By turning the methane to CO2, we mitigate 96% of the warming effect of the methane. Wherever possible, we can turn that heat into electricity in order to make productive use of the transition. Our ARPA-e funded technology is much lower cost than alternatives, allowing more distributed sources to participate in carbon markets than was possible previously.
Sustainable Development Goals:
No poverty
Zero hunger
Health and wellbeing
Quality education
Gender equality
Clean water and sanitation
Affordable and clean energy
Decent work and economic growth
Industry innovation and infrastructure
Reduced inequalities
Sustainable cities and communities
Responsible consumption and production
Climate action
Life below water
Life on land
Peace and justice
Partnerships for the goals
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
All our projects are within rural communities, often farming areas or historical coal areas. We provide additional revenue directly to the land owner via a revenue share, as well as provide jobs to local contractors to help with installation and maintenance of the projects.
