Project Summary / Description:
Conceived by chance when Charles Nouhan, Rik van Hemmen, and Mike Raftery were introduced to each other by a mutual acquaintance, when told of a new technology developed by Mike, based on a patent that developed while he was a graduate student, a light went on in Charles‚ head. Utility-level electricity generated from ocean waves, the greatest natural resource surrounding the Earth‚ landmasses, could transform the energy supply of small island states. It could also be a means by which to begin a meaningful reduction of carbon emissions into the Earth‚ atmosphere. The project was hatched that day.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Both Stakeholder Forum and M&O operate under gender, race, age, and socio-economic-neutral management policies, and apply similar standards to employment. While M&O employs with a bias towards women, the disadvantaged and underrepresented, most of M&O personnel are recruited through paid technical internships. They also have long working relationships with maritime high schools which provide alternative education in underserved communities such as the Harbor School (NYC), MAST (NJ), and the Maritime Highschool (PA). These schools focus on systematic training and coaching to defeat stereotypes and poverty cycles. M&O is also a prime supporter of the Navesink Maritime Heritage Association which focuses on genderless and disadvantaged education through the Discover Engage and Sustain mission in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Philosophy, History, Language and Arts (STEMPHLA) education setting. Our project will bring all these resources to bear.
