Project Summary / Description:
Our team realized Cancun‚ human life quality is not coherent with its biodiverse surroundings; seemed there was a lack of interest in improving green spaces and reducing carbon emissions by civil society and our municipality. This problem replicates all around Mexico. More than half of the world's population lives in urban areas (57% in 2022), which means urban planning is no longer an only option and restoring underprivileged urban areas seems overwhelming for civil society to tackle. We identified a need for a proven, clear and efficient methodology to launch restorative/regenerative projects in urban bubbles. One where anyone can take initiative and organize stakeholders to advance in creating the urban oasis we deserve. Our commitment: Achieving a concise and adaptable methodology to ideate, implement and monitor urban regenerative green spaces that encourages efficient collaborations between stakeholders for its most affordable planning and maintenance.

How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption), Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
OASIS 4.0 impacts socio-environmentally with a science-based social action plan, educationally empowering young citizens to take further action in climate justice and restorative activities. Youth and Citizen empowerment. The project aims to improve the lives of everyone living in vulnerable communities but our specific impact metrics include: -Youth Empowerment: Number of young citizens trained in climate justice education, ecological restorative activities and benefiting from the oasis created in their community, taking ownership of it. -Citizen Empowerment: improvement in air quality, walkability, socialization in public spaces and crime decline percentage. Other important metrics will help to measure an improvement in the lives of underrepresented communities, based on health, mobility, economy, connectivity, crime incidence, social & cultural cohesion, among others. Main beneficiaries are youth and women. We are sharing the master plan originally provided by UN Habitat (and other organizations) in which you can review expected impact and social projection details.

Mission Statement:
The team is formed by a group of diverse civil society young leaders, and is part of the Global Shapers Community, Hubs Canc√∫n & San Luis Potos (desert and tropical cities in Mexico). We are youth between 25-30 years old with varied backgrounds in reforestation, activism, impact measurement, local government, project management, AI & publicity (among others). With experience leading teams locally and internationally and joined by a common purpose aiming to impact at an international level through this specific project which has become the flagship of our community. Our project‚ main case studies will happen in two different cities of the country (Canc√∫n & SLP) with opposite environments and weathers to map out a specific methodology that can be useful at a regional level, eventually global.
