Project Summary / Description:
The founders of Global Thermostat, Graciela Chichilnisky and Peter Eisenberger, realized in the early years of the 21st century that climate change was an enormous threat to the earth and all species living there. Both founders combined their talents -- she an internationally recognized natural resources economist and successful entrepreneur and he a Bell Labs trained physicist -- to come up with an approach to most effectively address this enormous challenge. They quickly realized that any potential technical solution needed to be coupled with the right economic principles to achieve a breakthrough. They also realized it needed to directly address the source of the climate problem and reduce the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. This is why they developed a Direct Air Capture solution. Since 2010, GT has raised tens of millions of dollars, built several pilot facilities at Stanford Research International, and partnered with a large number of top tier industrial organizations to develop and refine its solution. We have recently broken ground on our first commercial demonstration plant in collaboration with a Fortune 100 company.

Mission Statement:
Global Thermostat's mission is to address climate change comprehensively at a global scale, by directly removing excess CO2 from atmosphere. We believe that to do so successfully will require our solution to be economically viable and valuable. We also believe that we need to do so in a way that is globally equitable and benefits societies around the world who participate in addressing climate change. Since all countries and peoples have equal access to the air, we believe that our Direct Air Capture solution can be uniquely accessible and beneficial to all of humanity.
