Project Summary / Description:
Delivering on Energy and Economic Equity, Meeting Financial, Structural, Customer, and Market Diversity Challenges. Across America, the poorest households pay the most for electricity and solar savings aren‚ t available to people who rent or have poor or no credit. This is because rooftop solar requires that you own your own roof, and project finance models depend on long-term contracts and high credit scores. While community solar holds the promise of expanding solar access, these same obstacles have persisted because conventional solar customer models don‚ t work for low-income customer needs.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Groundswell's mission, programs, and projects are all focused on driving energy equity at every phase of solar project development, deployment, and operation. From partnering with minority- and woman-owned businesses to finance, construct, and provide O&M services on our Share Power community solar projects; to delivering local workforce development and hiring opportunities to people living in the low- and moderate-income communities we serve; to prioritizing including and serving low-income solar customers with excellence and respect - equity, access, and diversity are at our core. Organizationally, Groundswell's Board and staff team proudly and deliberately reflect the communities we serve. We are woman-led, and our incoming Board Chair is a woman of color. We maintain our focus on diversity through ongoing organizational training and workshops to maintain a culture of belonging.
