How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)
Best Estimate of GHG Avoidance/Reduction of This Project (Tonnes CO2 Equivalent/Year):
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Vancouver Island electricity is almost totally suppled from the mainland by subsea cable. The island is earthquake and tsunami designated. In recent years our area has experienced a heat dome and flooding event. Our dependence on a single source of energy from the mainland puts our community at risk. This project will demonstrate that by applying proven alternative energy solutions we can demonstrate to the wider community energy security and resilience and attention to climate action.
