Project Summary / Description:
HATponics is born from consideration of food security in the face of social and climate change risks, including issues of displaced populations to water scarcity and slow-onset climactic events; HATponics recognised that we have to handle the capacity to deliver food security just about anywhere in the world, but had not invested in the engineering and implementation know-how to deliver these solutions cost-effectively and with the required education and training. Literally, HATponics seeks to develop "fishing" practices so as to teach "fishing" and allow this mission to spread sustainably, instead of delivering the proverbial "fish" to ever increasing demand. On this path, HATponics has fostered initiatives for sustainable development in low-impact, low-input farming, where economic benefits move closer to the producer, and flexible planting opportunities delivers broader diversification of crops and revenue streams than normally available to traditional farming paradigms, paired with innovative education approaches at all academic levels. HATponics has now developed both turn-key units (from table-top to multi-hectare equivalent sizes), turn key monitoring, and applicable education and training for academic learning and for operation and maintenance of integrated aquaponic systems, which can also be tuned to soil remediation. HATponics has demonstrated these systems and practices in installations in Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, North America and Europe, and is developing alliances with collaborating institutions in all these areas in order to continue and accelerate propagation of this know-how.

Mission Statement:
HATponics holds human capital and human well-being as intrinsic and essential progenitors for a healthy planet—but the human condition will not improve if development is at the cost of natural ecosystems. To this issue, HATponics delivers sustainable agriculture solutions to populations globally via aquaponics, as well as innovation in soil remediation for improved production without a reliance on artificial fertilisers, all paired with associated education and training. The modular, transportable, climate-resilient, turn-key systems provide food production for both commercial growers and at-risk populations alike. The mission of bringing sustainable, climate-resilient food security to those in need lies at the heart of HATponics, approached through direct implementation and education, engaging inclusively with young people, women, and farmers throughout the world, transforming views of farming and food-security activities to an understanding of natural processes and their husbandry.
