Project Summary / Description:
The project will be based on a new hybrid improved cookstove called Heera , which takes less time to cook, less firewood with zero indoor pollution and releases only filtered smoke in the atmosphere, thus reducing outdoor pollution. It also provides regular supply of warm water (using the waste heat from smoke and flue gases) and also keeps the room temperature warm in cold winters. It is also integrated with a 10 watt solar-photo voltaic powered 12 volts battery (through a charge controller), which operates a small low speed DC fan, for pushing smoke up with force, through the exhaust pipe in to the bucket full of water for filtering, lights an LED bulb and charges mobile phone. The project will be undertaken in 6 villages in the sub Himalayan region of India, where traditional cook stoves are used in every household.Traditional Cook Stoves emits smoke and soot along with polluting particles creating health problems for women and children, causes indoor and outdoor pollution and consumes excessive firewood. With frequent power cuts in the regions, the village women end up cooking in the dark kitchen. For the initial phase off the project, INSEDA will organize a baseline survey in the villages and determine the estimated number of Cook Stoves to be installed in each of the village. The project will bear 25% of the cost incurred for the installation of the Cook Stove and 75% cost will be borne by the beneficiary. The reason for dividing the cost is that the beneficiaries will feel a sense of ownership once the Stove is installed which will motivate them for the upkeep and continuity of the installed Stove.
