Project Summary / Description:
India is the second largest country in farm output across the globe. Though Agriculture has been one of the primary occupations in India, it continues to face several challenges both which are manmade as well as Natural. Few challenges are: Small and fragmented land-holdings Seeds Manures, Fertilizers and Biocides Irrigation Lack of mechanization Soil erosion Agricultural Marketing Inadequate storage facilities Jalankur Farms India Pvt Ltd, was established to offer technical support to farmers and train them to adapt themselves towards organic farming that involves the technique of aquaponics as a part of their agriculture process. While, aquaponics is not a new technology, but it hasn‚ t been tried in India at a scale that could bring a change in the farming sector. It offers many advantages over the conventional farming like the requirement of fertile land is eliminated, the water consumption is reduced to 1/10th, it can also be done in a vertical way which gives more farm output compared to the traditional farming, The output is not just the crops but also fish which also adds to sustaining the cost over a period of time Jalankur, aims at creating a working model which would also work as a training centre for farmers to be trained on this technology, It also aims to hand hold the technology to the farmers over a period of time, educate them about renting model where they could rent a land and set up the system to avoid costs associated with buying a land.
