Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Fleather is the genesis of a new-circular economy model with ingrained socio-economic & systemic impact. 1. Socio-Economic Impact : The organisation has been involved with the informal sector since it‚ inception in 2017 . What started as a humble attempt to clean the River Ganga with 2kgs of temple flower waste and 2 women has now grown into a family of 73 full time women employees, upcycling >2 tons of floral waste everyday. These women flowercyclers were previously engaged in the practise of manual scavenging. A practise of confining and engaging people from certain castes to clean sewers , pick up human waste and do menial work in the most inhuman hazardous conditions. Our focus has been to provide a fixed source of livelihood and health care benefits to - the women from the poorest and most disadvantaged communities in India. So far we have provided : Disease-free Dignified Fulltime Livelihood > 73 women Impacted Livelihoods - FY 22 ‚ 158 | FY 23 -253 | FY 24 -449 19 children from these families have started going to schools which was a distant dream earlier. Increasing the standard of living and facilitated the women to be economically independent with predictable and regular incomes. Implemented rehabilitation programs and setup internal training programs to 2. Systemic Change:In India , offering flowers to the Gods is a tradition . These flowers considered holy cannot be dumped in the river to respect their sanctity and end up getting dumped in the rivers. By setting up a supply chain for the floral waste collections we help temples in managing their waste responsibly . Temple authorities want to be a part of our mission. Pointing to a change against a century old harmful practice. By virtue of association with Fleather, the women workforce get a respectable position in the society as their work helps reduce the impact of waste for a better tomorrow.
