Project Summary / Description:
1. Kids That Compost (KTC) is a community of kids, advocates, service providers, city leaders and schools with a mission to divert food waste from landfills by providing a high impact, convenient and simple approach to composting. In doing so, this youth-driven organization in Columbus, Ohio is addressing the critical issues of planet-warming gases emitting from overcrowded landfills. We provide weekly residential curbside pickup service and work with schools to address the amount of waste produced in kitchens and cafeterias, all while empowering kids to educate, inspire and motivate their communities about the impact of food waste on our planet.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Kids That Compost is a platform that gives children an opportunity to lead, educate and work together to make change. Being a part of Kids That Compost gives our youth a sense of pride and accomplishment and positions them for leadership roles in the future. By acting as mentors and role models, these children are empowered to teach conservation skills and build values that carry into adulthood. As a pilot program, Kids that Compost has also partnered with the City of Grandview to provide a number of centralized bins for residents to deposit food waste free of charge. This act provides the ability to compost to all citizens, regardless of socio-economic status. We are looking to scale this composting station concept, city by city, throughout the state and eventually the nation.
