Founded in January 2020, Kiri EV Limited (Kiri) provides holistic end-to-end affordable and clean energy mobility services across Kenya. Kiri designs and assembles electric motorcycles, scooters and tuk tuks, as well as battery charging infrastructure. Kiri aims to setup electric motorcycle sales and distribution and battery charging infrastructure across Kenya with charging points powered by renewable energy. The excess electricity will be sold to power small businesses within the community, including barbers, grain milling and cold storage. Kiri EV has two key impact areas: 1. Creating decent work by providing electric motorcycles that are operationally cheaper to run creating more income for our key clients who are motorcycle taxi's, and delivery riders with the aim of including more women in this sector. 2. Reducing pollution by replacing petrol motorcycles with electric ones. Kiri can save 3.12 tCO2eq saved per year with every electric motorcycle we put on the road.

Kiri EV is looking to convert last mile 2 & 3 wheeler mobility into electric powered. We are looking to address barriers to e-mobility adoption, using 2 & 3 wheeler electric vehicles that are designed for use in African terrain both urban and rural. Kiri will also build local capacity to maintain and service the vehicles which a major barrier to adoption of EVs. Through Kiri‚ Pay-as-you-earn lease-to-own vehicle financing Kiri will make it more affordable to own an electric 2 & 3 wheeler. On the charging side, Kiri will set up reliable and affordable charging stations, ensure the PayGo costs cover charging and basic service of the vehicle, and enable dual use of charging infrastructure. This ensures the infrastructure does not lie idle when there are no vehicles charging thus incentivising partners to set them up and rapidly increase our charging network. Kiri will also create new jobs from renewable charging points which will create new income streams and opportunities, with our target being women and youth who run/operate kiosks that can be converted into solar charging points. Our easy to ride and affordable ownership schemes will make it easier for youth and women to own an electric motorcycle for productive use as well extra income from charging points.

Kiri EV is working to introduce and expand the use of electric vehicles across Kenya and East Africa. Kiri is setting up in Western Kenya (Kisumu and Homabay) where the grid is unreliable Kiri is also working with women's groups and rural communities to introduce electric two and three wheelers for commuting and produce transport. This is coupled with renewable charging systems to charge the vehicles and also provide power to households and businesses including barbers, grain milling and cold storage for post-harvest when not charging the vehicles. Kiri will supply battery and vehicle charging infrastructure that incentivizes business owners to set up charging infrastructure as an extra revenue stream. Kiri aims to address barriers to e-mobility adoption in urban and rural areas by building local capacity to maintain and service the vehicles, and lease the vehicle through PayGo so that it costs the same upfront as a petrol vehicle.
