Project Summary / Description:
Originally I was trying to grow food crops in my compost pile. I was having a lot of problems trying to compost during the drought in California. After awhile, I found a new way to digest my food waste into a rich, soil-like growing media that totally bypassed the composting process. It was only much later I figured out this could work on a broad range of waste streams.

As part of our funding, H. Smith spends a significant portion of each week working with low income and homeless families (primarily single mothers) in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. We literally started with nothing. Our first prototype was built with cardboard boxes (free) from Costco. We are used to working on a limited budget.

Mission Statement:
We use waste that would otherwise go to the landfill to grow biofuel crops in a regenerative, soil-free system that can sequester up to 30% SOC within a year. This allows us to eliminate the need for landfills while producing biofuel crops in a carbon-negative process that does not compete with food crops.
