Project Summary / Description:
There is a growing of population, wood requirement, charcoal and house construction materials which will increase even more and create environmental destruction in the area. Therefore, the purpose of the project is to do campaigns on climate change mitigation by tree planting and training the community groups on tree nursery establishment and management. Training the community groups on establishment tree farm, its management, environmental conservation and effect of environmental degradation. The project was formed due to the concern of assisting the initiated efforts of the Nation on alleviating poverty among the Community hence mitigate the cross cutting issues. Since it started, it has extended its activities to various development groups in Mwanza City and neighboring Districts. It started with 12 Founder Members in 2014. The Organizational structure starts with the Board of Members and flows with the Chairperson, the Secretary, the Treasurer and Project Officers.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project participants are the community members within the areas of concentration. A baseline survey and interviewing the community members on the environment degradation, deforestation and perception was done by LAVISEHA staff to investigate the need for mitigating the problem. Community members (men, women, youth, people of color and institutions) engaged in nursery establishment and management, pricking out, spot preparation, transplanting and tree protection. They are also participate in various trainings, practicing tree planting by using agro forestry techniques in their lands and homesteads as well as in selling the products of the trees and agro forestry for their daily livelihood. Also LAVISEHA conducts meeting within the concerned communities to raise awareness on the project activities and their benefits to the communities. LAVISEHA ensures that Local Government Leaders are involved in the project through conducting trainings on the various tree-related agenda and climate change mitigation issues. The concerned communities are trained in order to be knowledgeable on tree-related issues. After the train LAVISEHA provides leaflets on climate change mitigation to participants who help to disseminate them to other community members.
