Project Summary / Description:

This project was formed while I was taking a sabbatical from my career in solar power development. I believe a large-scale shift to renewable energy production will be most effective if it is combined with significant and thoughtful shifts in our consumption patterns. The rise of fast fashion over the past few decades has led the fashion industry to become a material contributor to carbon emissions. Taking inspiration from menswear, I started Lily Kastur to test a new model for womenswear that is designed to both elevate women and have positive environmental impact.

Elevating women is central part of our mission. There is a great quote from Arianna Huffington about wardrobe anxiety and repeating outfits, ""Men have a competitive advantage, they don't have to waste the kind of energy we waste. Women should deliberately repeat things they love."" Changing attitudes about fashion can have positive impacts for both women and the environment.
