Project Summary / Description:
Our mission is to generate $230 billion/year of recurrent, reliable, and sustainable funding to protect natural carbon sinks in low and middle-income countries. Our country, Colombia, is the most biodiverse country in the world by square meters. We see the impacts of nature's destruction daily in our cities through the force-displaced people with poverty, hunger, unemployment, and diseases. Protecting forests and oceans, we fight all these issues and climate change. Jeisson and I were working since 2019 to make commerce more efficient. In September 2020, the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability published "Closing the Nature Funding Gap." We connected the dots and thought about using the money from e-commerce inefficiencies to fund forests and oceans. We have been working since to generate free cash flow to pay for nature conservation.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
On top of the $700 billion/year funding gap, just 19% of the global funding for protected areas is spent in low and middle-income countries. The irony is that more than 75% of the planet's natural carbon sinks are located in these countries. Our mission is to generate $230 billion/year of recurrent, reliable, and sustainable funding to protect natural carbon sinks in low and middle-income countries where most climate migrants are from. Forests account for a total of 1.839 billion hectares on our planet. According to The Journal Perspectives in Ecology and Conservation in May 2022, it costs $6.5/year on average per hectare to protect forests. We need $12 billion/year. We must add a 15% premium, $1.8 billion/year, to pay governments and disincentivize the economic interests driving deforestation. The total is $14 billion/year to halt deforestation, avoid emitting 5.3 Gigatons of CO2/year, enhance biodiversity, and reduce force displacement of people, poverty, unemployment, and diseases.

Mission Statement:
Mandatum generates hundreds of billions in free cash flow from e-commerce inefficiencies to Split among Brands, Shoppers, and the Planet. Our mission is to generate $230 billion/year recurrently, reliably, and sustainably to fund COP 15 Global Biodiversity Framework‚ 2030 targets. Our environmentalists work with scientists, like the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability, to deploy the funding where safeguarding natural capital has the biggest and most immediate impact on climate, economies, and health. Funding is the supply needed to take Biodiversity Credits from a dream to a reality. Currently, we are funding El Globo, by Terrasos, the first project in Colombia to issue biodiversity credits. The project has a 30-year legal, financial, and technical structure for biodiversity restoration and preservation, securing biodiversity gains in time. El Globo is an initiative underway to design biodiversity credits and test the voluntary market for these credits.
