Project Summary / Description:
Mertiff ventures organisation is a youth-women led entity that was established in 2021. We are an entity that help community marginalised women use alternative clean cooking energy through supply of clean improved jikos. Majority (about 80%) of women in rural Kenya use fossil fuel e.g firewood as the Only source of cooking energy. This is not only a hazard to the environment through deforestation and CO2 emission, but also a serious threat to their health. The smoke from the firewood according to a study done by the Ministry of Health Kenya has been named as top cause of respiratory diseases in the country. We have stepped in the gap to distribute clean energy cooking jikos that help in reduction of CO2 emissions and also in improving rural womens health..Our products(jikos) have been designed to utilise briquettes for efficient and effective cooking.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project is designed to empower women in rural Kenya improve their health and also be part of the the UN SDGs specifically Climate Action in mitigating the CO2 emissions through ue of clean energy cooking jikos/ stoves. We are an entity that help community  marginalised women use clean cooking energy through supply of clean improved jikos. We leverage on existing popular women saving groups populary known as chamas as our distribution channels. The members act as co guarantors during the purchase of the jiko/stove and weekly payments are done in a kitty named table banking.
