Project Summary / Description:

The purpose of the project is to reduce the ecological footprint of a vessel facilitating attitude and behavioural changes amongst the crewmembers.
Reducing CO2 emissions and the footprint of the maritime sector strongly focusses on new technologies, alternative fuels and digitisation. However essential these new innovation all need to be implemented by an aware and openminded crew in order to succeed. Oceans1 is set out to create that openess and willingness to change since medio 2018. It started of as an in-house Royal Netherlands Navy project and soon spinned out when civel ship-owners wanted to join. This organisational overarching design facilitates integrated perspectives enhancing the solvability of common problems like hull fouling, data sharing, route optimization, etc.

The project empowers the practitioner at sea. The practitioner at sea is often not engage in the process of innovation and/or optimization. Oceans1 unleashes their potential by creating an open level playing field (a 'game') reducing hierarchy or social thresholds to a minimum.
